Winter holidays in the Black Forest

Skiing and tobogganing between thermal springs and forests

Experience nature in the Enztal valley

The Black Forest is among the most attractive landscapes for lovers of nature and winter sports. In its midst is the Enztal valley, boasting mountains, valleys, forests, rivers, endless winter walks, cross-country trails, groomed ski slopes and snowshow trails, far from the bustle of everyday life.

The Enztal valley lies directly along the Nordschwarzwald cross-country ski trail. Cross-country skiers find wide and well-maintained tracks here in a network of routes between 14 and 70 kilometres long at varying levels of difficulty. Breathtaking views alternate with quiet forest glades, and the sight of unique natural landscapes like the high moorland around the Wildsee lake is the reward for your efforts. You can stop along the way at one of the cottages offering local food and drink, and regain your strength by indulging in a regional specialty like the blueberry pancakes of legendary fame.

Those preferring to move at higher speeds will find their Eldorado at three major ski slopes with operating lifts. Two drag lifts take you up Bad Wildbad's Sommerberg. mountain where well-groomed pistes lead back down into the valley. Experienced skiers and beginners alike can find the right ski run here. Not far away, two World Cup women skiers began their alpine ski careers in Kaltenbronn, our historic ski area which maintains two ski lifts. Here many local and regional cross-country trails come together. Children, teenagers and adults, whether beginners, intermediate or advanced skiers, discover the Kaltenbronn skiing region for themselves and gladly return each year. Winter sport enthusiasts find one of the longest and steepest runs in the Black Forest at the Enzklösterle ski centre, which also boasts two ski lifts. Whether steep or easy slopes, deep snow fun or practice areas for children and beginners, winter sport enthusiasts here find something to suit every need. On all ski slopes in the Enztal valley, there are cottages offering food and drink, and places to stop for refreshment.

Ramblers get their money's worth in the Enztal valley all year round. In winter, you can choose between cleared walking trails and deep-snow snowshoe trails to explore the beautiful winter landscape. You can also take advantage of guided walks.

We recommend a ride in a horse-drawn sleigh through the wintry Black Forest for guests with a sense of romance. After a day spent outdoors in crispy cold weather, a visit to the Palais Thermal sauna and bath palace is the perfect thing to do. From the outdoor deck with heated pool and sauna, you can enjoy a panoramic view of snowy Sommerberg mountain and the Sommerbergbahn cable railway.
